Aluda village in the Dausa district of Rajasthan holds significant historical importance. The first tricolor of independent India was made in this village by weaver Shri Nanag Ram. On 15 August 1947, India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru brought the tricolor from the village and hoisted it on the Red Fort of Delhi. Even though historically significant, the people of this renowned village have faced a lot of issues over the years due to its backwardness. Prabhati Lal, a 100-year-old resident of the village, is a witness to this backwardness. The nearest bank is 25 kilometers away from the village that makes banking facilies inaccessible for the people. Prabhati Lal and his descendants would have probably contnued to live under the same circum- stances, but in the interim, a new change came forth bringing a new dawn to the village. He saw that CSC VLE Mahesh Kumar Saini had visited their village to discuss the importance of saving and the advantages of opening a bank account. Addionally, he explained to the villagers that they did not always have to visit the bank for all bank- ing chores. Majority of the services can be availed in the village itself through the VLE himself. Today, Prabhati Lal has a substantal amount saved in his account due to his frequent savings. He makes a regular monthly deposit of a few rupees so he can use his savings to support his family and future genera on in self-employment. Today, because of CSC VLE Mahesh Kumar Saini, banking has become accessible for the first me in the lives of 11,500 people like Prabhati Lal living in Aluda and nearby villages like Ranivas, Chareda, Kalikhad, Sahaspur, Jon, Thumandi, Hapawas, Papadda, Shyalwas, Bhaglai, Jaisinghpura, and Ramsinghpura. Mahesh provides banking services of Bank of Baroda. Many people who were previously beyond the scope of the financial system have opened accounts via this inivatve. Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana through CSC is the first iniave in world history to incorporate such a large number of people into the banking system in a short me. Cooperat on of both government and non-government banks has been taken in this scheme. 32 years-old Mahesh started CSC in 2009 aer completng his graduaon. His family was financially struggling at that period. Mahesh explains, “Even though the financial conditon was very challenging at home, I did not lose courage. This made me commit to bring change in my life and in society through CSC. In 2014, the number of services started increasing which brought more opportunites to work on. My hard work started paying off.” Today, VLE Mahesh conducts about 4500+ transactions worth Rs. 3 crores every month. Surely, his work is an inspiraon to many.
